Annapurna Sanctuary

The route to Annapurna Sanctuary (Annapurna Deuthali in Nepali), the site of the Annapurna south face base camp, is a spectacular short trek. Though it has some steep climbs, the trek is not difficult. The major problem with this trek is that it can become impassable because of snow and avalanches in winter and early spring. It is the only major trekking route in Nepal that has significant avalanche danger, so you must inquire locally whether the trail is safe. Some trekkers have died because of avalanches, and others have been stranded in the sanctuary for days. The sanctuary trek traverses a variety of terrain, from lowland villages and rice terraces to glaciers, and offers outstanding high mountain views. This trek is a fine opportunity to surround yourself with Himalayan peaks in a short time, without having to contend with the altitude and flight problems of the Everest region.

  Kathmandu to Phedi drive 8 hour private car/van and 2 Hours walk to Dhampus (Starting at an elevation 1080m in a forest that is so overgrazed that is looks like a manicured municipal park, the trail climbs steeply past some scattered houses to the ridge at Dhampus, at 1580m) .Overnight Dhampus
day 02
Dhampus to Landrung at 1550m ( Landrung is a Gurung village)
day 03
Landrung to Chhomrong at 2040m (there is a tremendous view of Annapurna South, which seems to tower above the village, and there are good views of Machhapuchhare (machha ‘fish’ and puchhare ‘tail’) across the valley.  It is from this point onwards that the reason for the name of this peak becomes apparent
day 04
 Chhomorung to Dovan at 2430m. ( The trail descends on a stone staircase and crosses the chhomrong khola then the trail climbs steeply Sinuwa at 2250m, Bamboo Lodge at 2190m,  Dovan at 2430m
day 05
Dovan  to Deurali
day 06
Deurali to Machhapuchhare Base camp at 3480m.  (the mountain views are stupendous; the panorama including Hiumchuli, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gangapurna and Machhapuchhare.)
day 07
Morning 2 hour climb to Annapurna Base Camp.  Take lunch in Annapurna base camp and back to Deurali at 300m. Overnight Deurali.
day 08
Deurali to Chhomorung
day 09
Chhomorung to Ghandruk at 1940m.
day 10
Ghandruk to Birethanti, come road side take car come Pokhara.  Overnight Pokhara.
