Bhairab Kunda in Sanskrit mean holy lake named after the destructive image of Lord Shiva, the Bhairab. It is located to the northeast of Kathmandu next to Panch Pokahari and closer to Nepal-Tibetan border. The starting point for the trek at Larcha in the Arniko Highway.

The settlements on the route form Newars, Gurungs and Sherpas as majorities. The top of Bhairab Kunda offers an excellent view of Rolwaling Range, Judal Himal Range, and Tibetan Himalayan Ranges.
